Gilbert Linkous Elementary (Blacksburg, VA) graduating fifth graders at
an Awards Ceremony on Thursday, June 7. These students were recipients
of the Poly-Scientific Good Citizenship Award. One boy and one girl were
chosen from each fifth grade class based on their demonstration of leadership
in the classroom, academic effort and their participation in extracurricular
activities. Congratulations to Jillian Smith, Michael Blanchard, Alexandria
Hounshell, Cody Ross, Sydney Darden and Louis Chen. Each student was awarded
a $100 U.S. Savings Bond to encourage them to further their education.
The Poly-Scientific Good Citizenship Award has been awarded annually to
Gilbert Linkous Elementary students since the beginning of the Educational
Partnership Program twelve years ago. The partnership program provides
a structure for the community to become actively involved in supporting
public education. The partnership represents the business community and
the public school system's realization of the importance of a quality
education for all young people and the importance of working together
