How
we do it ...
|
|
Our roots were
formed in 1953 when Poly-Scientific was founded in Blacksburg,
Virginia. In 1992 the company evolved when Clifton Precision and Special Devices
were combined with Poly-Scientific to expand operations in Murphy, North Carolina, and Springfield,
Pennsylvania. On September 30, 2003, the company was acquired
by Moog Inc.
The synergy of the different operations has proven to be a very
powerful one. Individual product groups have continued to prosper,
while complementary technologies have led to the development of
new products and systems. Electromechanical assemblies that combine
motors, resolvers, slip rings and fiber optics into solar array
drives for satellites, actuators and other motion control systems
are now being provided by Moog Components Group.
We can design
and produce "one-of-a-kind" custom products, as well
as high-volume, extremely cost sensitive standard products. Diversity has brought strength
and flexibility to our employees and has expanded our capabilities. We have learned to listen
to the customer and then efficiently respond to them.
- Military
and Commercial Balance
The operations
of Moog Components Group have their roots and expertise based
deep in the area of aerospace and military manufacturing. The
quality and precision required for conforming to the requirements
of space, weapons, aircraft and other mission-critical programs
have long been a tradition in each operation. This stringent
quality is still prevalent today in all of the design and manufacturing
processes within the company.
Building on the company's foundation in the defense community,
we've transferred our knowledge and capability base to produce cost-effective products for commercial
markets. These cost reductions are also benefiting military
customers by meeting their Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) demands.
In many new applications, COTS products effectively address
our customers' cost concerns.
What
we can do for you...

These are challenging
times for most businesses. Customer needs are more demanding,
their delivery times are shorter, quality products are a given -- not
a differentiator -- and cost must continually move downward while suppliers struggle to maintain
profits. A company's best chance of surviving and prospering in today's business climate depends
largely on well-trained, motivated employees who are dedicated
to continuous improvements. We are willing and ready, and capable of facing these challenges.
To meet
these challenges, we have adopted these concepts:
|
Teams:
|
Initially
formed to address specific problems and improvement opportunities,
our teams have now matured into Self-Directed Work Teams. |
| |
|
Total
Quality Management (TQM):
|
Implemented
a Total Quality Management Program system in 1989 to provide
an organized and managed Quality Education and Improvement
System. |
| |
|
Demand
Flow Technology (DFT) and Continuous Flow Manufacturing
(CFM):
|
DFT/CFM
is a demand driven manufacturing flow system that utilizes
very little in-process inventory. The concept has helped
us be more efficient as well as flexible in accommodating
customer schedule changes. The process has also reduced
inventories and improved operations. |

Six
Sigma
|
Implemented
a process improvement system known as Six Sigma. We're focused
on ways to achieve excellence. Our Six Sigma techniques
involves a five step procedure: define the process
to be improved, measure it to obtain a performance
baseline, analyze the data to determine where errors
are occurring, improve the process and control
it to ensure the errors don't happen again. We have Black
Belts and Champions who are trained in this methodology. |
Our production,
technical, administrative and support personnel are all dedicated
to meeting the requirements of each application. We provide solutions,
not just products. Our manufacturing facilities are ISO 9001 certified.
