Engineering Assistants (Part time)

Initially, this task will include developing a system to identify and maintain processing equipment needs and a recall and storage system for this equipment. Some clerical duties are also required.
Candidates are desired to be in pursuit of a 2 or 4 year Engineering degree and have an estimated future minimum of two years of continuous employment. The individual must be proficient in the use of MS Excel and Word, have some clerical skills, and have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Working knowledge of measurement equipment is desired, but can be taught. A mechanical aptitude is required, as well as, the ability to work with and understand computer controlled equipment. The primary duties will include engineering support of our hybrid microelectronic/ optical assemblies and our fiber optic switches production lines with particular emphasis on technical trouble shooting of the hybrid microelectronic and optical assembly devices, problem resolution, and cause and corrective action. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and five-years related experience or equivalent is required. In addition, the candidate should be self motivated, assertive, well organized, and efficient with Microsoft Office products. This position requires an individual who independently pursues tasks and provides technical assistance to support new and on-going production efforts both in-house and offshore.
Position will provide the following: Provide technical support in process development. Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of assembly operations, tooling and machinery required to manufacture electro-mechanical components and assemblies. Participate in design reviews to insure design manufacturability prior to production. This includes sign-off of engineering drawings. Setup routings (operation sequences) for released designs. Develop operational method sheets to support engineering documentation, document manufacturing techniques and processes. Qualifications:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology with 4 or more years of directly relevant experience or Diploma in Mechanical Drafting and 10 or more years of directly relevant experience. Must have a good foundation in computer skills including 3D parametric Computer Aided Design (3D-CAD) as well as general office productivity software and spreadsheets. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and comprehension. General knowledge of business cost elements, selling and manufacturing processes. Well developed oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
